Can I have your number, please?

Is SMS the key to unlocking significantly more revenue for your e-commerce brand?

Klaviyo released its 2024 Global Texting Report. And if you’re not currently integrating SMS into your marketing strategy, we think these findings will make you reconsider.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • 86% of consumers made two or more purchases (up from 55% in 2022 🤯).

  • While email remains no. 1, SMS has leapfrogged social media and apps as the preferred method of communication.

  • Personalization and creativity are key—they don't want the exact copy from an email in a text or to be overwhelmed by Direct Response ads.

  • 72% of consumers expect at least one SMS message per week.

Similar to email—and no different from dating—if they give you their number, they expect to hear from you... 😬

And if you're not messaging at least once a week, you'll soon be forgotten!

Also no different from dating 😆

While SMS is easily integrated with platforms like Klaviyo, many brands are not yet leveraging it, making it an even bigger opportunity.

Personally, despite giving my email to countless brands each month (most of whom spend considerable ad revenue), I can think of only a handful that have asked for my number 😢

It's the Tinder experience all over again 😆

***Back to serious business***

Of those that asked for my number:

One made it mandatory to provide both email and number in their opt-in, which I suspect puts people off—swipe left!

The others simply asked for it immediately after opting in for email, using creative copy or further incentive—swipe right!

Easy.

And if all that's not enough to whet your appetite, here's what Chase Dimond shared in a recent newsletter:

"In the last few months, I've been extremely bullish on SMS. 98% open rate, super creative, and typically converts surprisingly well. I've seen some screenshots of people getting a 24x ROI on their SMS credits, which means we need to be collecting more numbers."

The proof is in the pudding: SMS works.

According to Klaviyo, the brands growing fastest on their platform are active across both email and SMS.

So, if you haven't got those digits yet, is it not best to ask before your competitor does?

And, hey, if you need a little assistance, we can keep it traditional for now. Simply...
